Direction in an Age of Confusion
The New Rebellion
*A holy uprising making real the extraordinary in everyday life
In 2011, I was in ‘Ollie’s Bargain Outlet’ book sales area when I spotted a large stack of golden brown tomes with a spine printing: The New Rebellion Handbook, a published work of Nelson Books, A Division of Thomas Nelson Publishers. Upon quick review, purchased it, but then set it on a shelf, almost forgotten until 2018. If I had realized how significant the handbook would be in 2020, I would have bought all of them, and shared many with other ‘believers’ sooner.
On its inner cover is printed: ‘It’s time for courage and compassion to awaken this generation to its heavenly destiny’. The New Rebellion generation is defined not by age of demographic, but by the spiritually hungry of every age and culture who share a common desire to reach beyond a small life….
“It is designed to equip and empower you for nothing less than radically changing your world.”
There are twenty-four real and relevant themes of life to challenge you with fresh ideas, biblical insights, and life applications. Although many of the resources listed, music lists, book titles, websites, and references, have now, sadly, been removed from internet and bookstore shelves or other resources, the themes and information are well worth locating a copy if you can get one.
On page 347, is listed The Top Ten Evidences of Heaven’s Aroma on Earth. (There are twenty-four ‘Top Ten’ lists in the text.) Based on all of my previous blogs, charts, references and ‘Vision 2020’ Direction in an Age of Confusion, I find this one a particularly pertinent follow-up to my last Blog.
As we pass through the Year 2020, into Year 2021, the outcomes of the political campaigns, elections, rampant COVID-19 pandemic roller-coaster ride caused by leadership of a nation’s splintered loyalties and self-interest, where do we go in our faith and spiritual journey?
Religious churches, temples, and mosques, gathering places for unity, prayer, and healing… closed more often than open. Are digital internet website, radio and television broadcasts, parking lot services, and drive-in window communion (like fast food restaurants) effective or satisfactory in such traumatic times? Or is it simply lukewarm and tasteless?
C.S. Lewis: “I must keep alive in myself the desire for my true country, which I shall not find till after death; I must never let it get snowed under or turned aside, I must make it the main object of life to press on to that other country and to help others do the same.”
The Top Ten Evidence’s of Heaven’s Aroma on Earth (according to The New Rebellion Handbook listed on page 347) are:
10 Hope in the midst of cynicism.
9 Contentment in the midst of adverse circumstances.
8 Genuine care for others in a self-centered world.
7 Willing sacrifice of all that the world holds dear for unseen reward.
6 Unified community in an angry, fractured culture.
5 Courage to gamble all of life upon a spiritual vision.
4 A tenacious joy that is unexplainable in worldly terms.
3 Supernatural healing of body, mind, and spirit.
2 Love for enemies.
Here’s the question: Does your belief in heaven change the way you live on earth?
Now is the time, during COVID-19 and the unrest and uncertainty across our nation, gather your family and friends--, we may have to remember the ‘underground church’ based on the political persecution of Christians. The first persecution of Christians was organized by the Roman government and took place under the emperor Nero in 64 AD after the Great Fire of Rome. The fire was blamed on the Christians.
